Fielding an Infield Grounder

One of the most important things to remember when fielding a grounder is to get the glove down. If the ball is coming straight at you, then you can squat and get the back of the glove on the dirt. If you are moving to one side or the other, then it can be harder. Just get as close as you can, but still be able to field the ball out in front of you. Don't bend over at your waist - bend those knees and get your bottom out of the air.
More detailed information on fielding a ground ball can be found in the Spring 2004 issue of Fastpitch Forever. Copies are still available in the shopping section of this site. Check it out!
